wxPresso

wxPresso is not just a fully featured Z39.50 and WWW client, but a portable, interpreted, interactive, object-oriented multiplatform GUI programming environment for the development of smart Internet clients and user agents. It supports Z39.50 over TCP/IP, HTTP and via a socket interface other TCP/IP protocols. It contains several presentation widgets including HTML1, SUTRS and MARC. Future versions will support SGML presentation via DSSSL.

With wxPresso one can quickly and easily build potent Graphical Internet Search / Retrieval / Navigation applicances and agents. It unifies the concept of wxPython with the Internet.

The language of wxPresso is ``Python''. It incorporates modules, exceptions, dynamic typing, very high level dynamic data types, and classes. Python combines remarkable power with very clear syntax.

The graphical user interface is built using wxWindows, a portable GUI toolkit for X, MS-Windows and Macintosh System 7.x.

wxPresso is available for Unix X-Windows (Motif/CDE), MS-Windows 3.1 (includes support for Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing 1.x), Win'95 and Windows-NT. Support for Mac System 7.x is in 3rd party development. OS/2, although planned, has been put on hold. The OpenWindows (XView) version is no longer supported.

A redesigned wxPresso, wxPresso 2.0, with a new extendible architecture, shared (or dynamic link, DLL) libraries, DSSSL interface and several other new features is planned for FCS in 4Q'97.
